With a comfortable sofa, soft carpeting and dimmed lights we have tried to create a ‘home from home’ feel for our youngest babies. We have also created a sensorial atmosphere in the form of numerous lighting effects, sound machines and varied music which changes on a daily basis. This room is for babies who are not yet fully mobile. It is designed to provide adequate space to roll around and practice crawling as well as equipment to encourage pulling up to standing.
Once mobile our babies progress through to this spacious and light room. Spread around the room are specially designed low level shelves where the children can help themselves to the toys and equipment as they wish. The room is also split into areas of construction, home corner, music corner and reading corner. In addition there is a messy play area where the children carry out a wide variety of arts and crafts. The vast majority of our toys and ride-on’s are made of high quality wood.
The Cocoon Room (all purpose room)
Although most of our babies sleep outside in their prams on the decking or under our specially designed all weather play area, this multi-purpose room is also used as a sleep room with cots. We also use this room for our large quantity of soft play equipment. This is made into ‘assault courses’ which encourages the babies to use their large motor skills to exercise, climb, crawl and explore in a safe, carpeted environment. The toddlers also use this room for French Lessons and Ballet twice a week.
The Outdoor Area
At the Pumpkin Patch Nursery we believe that a ‘healthy body promotes a healthy mind’ which is why we spend so much time outdoors with the children in our extensive garden. Primarily the babies play on the large area of decking which has a wide variety of wooden ride-on’s, carts and miniature picnic tables – for outside arts and crafts as well as lunch and snacks in Summer.
The Sensory Garden
This secure garden also boasts a sensorial area where the children can explore the plants, chimes and mobiles in small supervised groups. The babies are also taken on regular walks around the 3.5 acres of woodland, grassy slopes and formal gardens in the grounds that belong to the Nursery. Here they discover plants, fruit, nature and the environment. As we are only 2 minutes from the beach the babies regularly experience the wonders of the seaside and the local community at large.
