The Baby Room

The baby Room provides a caring, happy and stimulating environment. Babies are catered for from the age of 3 months upwards and they remain in this room until they are steady on their feet. They then gradually make the transition to the Rainbow room. Twelve babies can be accommodated at any one time and four members of staff are within the room. The staff do different activities with the babies depending on the childs age and needs. Some of examples of the activities are as follows: painting with feet, gluck, walks and garden play, treasure basket and soft play.

The Rainbow Room

This room is the tweenie room and can accommodate nine children at any one time. There are three staff in this room and the children make the transition from the baby room as soon as they are steady on their feet. This is the time when the children need more stimulation and that is what this room offers until they are two. This room has quite a lot of open space to encourage the childs newly found skill of walking. The activities are now on tables and chairs as well as some still on the floor level. The children draw, paint, glue, play with sand and water and are introduced to a role play corner. As the children develop their skills new ones are introduced for continued development.

The Busy Bee Room

This is the toddler room where the children are between 2 and 3 years old. 15 chidren are accommodated in this room with 3 staff. The children are involved in many activities like the Rainbow room depending on their age and ability. We have outings on a regular basis for all the rooms, their age group and topics determine where the room goes. Thses regularly include trips to the Zoo, Farm, Parks, Soft Play Centre, Butterfly World and the Museum. The room also concentrates on monthly themes that are more in depth than the Rainbow room. Plans are written up each month to let parents know what topic is ongoing each month. These themes include literacy hour which sets time aside for storytelling and poetry.

The Sunshine Room

This room is anti pre-school and pre-school and the children are between 3 and 5 years old. Twenty children are accommodated in this room with four staff. We are in partnership with Edinburgh City Council which enables us to qualify for funding. We also employ a teacher on a part time basis who works in conjunction with the staff to ensure all areas of the curriculum are covered in their monthly topics. Parents are made aware of the topics and staff are always available to explain and discuss all curricular areas with the parents. We also operate a keyworker system which involves staff monitoring and evaluating the childrens progress on a daily basis. Parents are informed of their childs keyworker and get a chance to speak with them on a daily basis or at the parent evenings. The keyworker system starts in the babies and is continued until the children leave for school when a profile is sent to the school they will attend.
